First Breath
A gentle introduction for complete beginners. Learn the tide pattern, in for four, hold for four, out for six, and leave with a practice you can keep.
A breath work studio · Dunmoor Harbour
Haar is a small studio by the harbour wall. One warm room, one teacher and an hour that belongs entirely to you.
Or try one breath first
In for four, hold for four, out for six
That was one breath. A session is sixty of them.
The sea does not hurry.
Neither does the tide.
Neither, for one hour, will you.
The practice
No incense, no jargon and nothing to believe in. Breath work is the practice of paying attention to the one thing you have done every minute of your life. We slow the breath down, deepen it and let the nervous system follow.
People come for stress, for sleep, for grief or simply for the quiet. The breath does not mind why you came.
The sessions
A gentle introduction for complete beginners. Learn the tide pattern, in for four, hold for four, out for six, and leave with a practice you can keep.
One to one, shaped around whatever you are carrying. The room is yours, the pace is yours and nothing is rushed.
A small group class at seven each morning, while the haar is still on the water. Six mats, no experience needed.
The studio
The studio sits above the old chandlery on Harbour Lane. Wooden floor, wool blankets, a kettle that is always warm. In winter you will hear the water. In summer the windows open to it.
Sessions are limited to six people, and most weeks the quietest seat in Dunmoor is the one you book here.
Your guide
Elin has taught breathing for twelve years, first to cold water swimmers, then to everyone else. Sessions with Elin are unhurried, practical and quietly funny.
“Nobody needs to be taught to breathe. They need permission to slow down.”
